I am known for...
Compassion, connection, humor, advocacy, insatiable quest for knowledge, passion for improving systems, social justice, and empowering people to improve their lives.
Philosophy:
Emotional distress, physical illness and situational factors can upset our balance in life, which is why I view problems-in-living through a holistic lens. Plato once said, "the part can never be well unless the whole is well." We are all products of our environment, our history, our internal voice, and biological predispositions. I incorporate cultural competence and a patient-centered approach to help patients optimize their health and wellness. Utilizing a variety of evidence-based interventions such as Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Mindfulness, I help patients identify problematic thinking patterns, explore deeply held belief systems that may be contributing to stress, and promote self-growth through exploration.
More about me:
Before I started my private practice in 2018, I worked for Stanford Health Care where I treated patients with depression, anxiety, trauma, and a plethora of other issues in an integrative behavioral health setting. I also worked closely with psychiatry to support the management of medication and treatment plans for my clients.
Prior to Stanford, I worked at the Department of Veteran's Affairs serving veterans struggling with Post-Traumatic-Stress-Disorder, problematic substance-use, and other disorders at the intersection of medical and mental illness. I also worked as a case manager in the ER, medical units and primary care settings.
Since 2018 I have served as a consultant
providing crisis intervention for organizations in Silicon Valley whose
employees were the victims of violence, political unrest, traumatic loss, and
restructuring. Most recently I became a
facilitator for "healing circles" which currently operate online as safe spaces
for people to come together to be seen/discuss and ultimately heal from the
historic trauma of oppression. I also recently completed a facilitator course
with Prosocial World which uses evolutionary theory and Nobel prize-winning
research to enhance cooperation and collaboration among and between individuals
and groups.
